As befits an institution of higher learning, The Frost Art Museum has a deep commitment to education, both within Florida International University and throughout the wider South Florida community. With a longstanding tradition of educational programming, we look to the new 46,000 square foot facility as an unprecedented opportunity to expand our offerings.
A centerpiece of The Frost Art Museum, the Kenan-Flagler Family Discovery Gallery & Museum terrace welcomes families, students and guests with activities designed to educate and entertain. The Kenan-Flagler Family Discovery Gallery is an integral part of every visit to The Frost Art Museum. In the Kenan-Flagler Family Discovery Gallery, visitors are able to build a modern sculpture with large interlocking shapes, use a touch screen monitor to create a self portrait, create patterns using the theory of positive and negative space, experience the printmaking process through a series of rubbings on low relief metal shapes or collaborate with a friend on a drawing using a transparent easel.
Grounded in the belief that hands-on activities help children learn, this interactive gallery adds a new dimension to The Museum visit and will provide a powerful experience for parents and children working together. We hope to make The Museum experience more enjoyable and to engage the viewer by providing information and posing questions that promote creative thinking and observation.
The Kenan-Flagler Family Discovery Gallery is only one facet of The Museum’s educational offerings. The Frost Art Museum will strengthen its position as a major cultural force within the FIU, Miami, and South Florida communities by offering educational opportunities beyond its galleries and exhibitions. Overlooking the beautiful natural landscape of the FIU campus, the Kenan-Flagler Museum Terrace provides a large outdoor space that allows children to work on “messy” activities.
