We will teach arts and crafts to students ages 6-12 (grades 1-5). Lessons will be held at the Frost Art Museum Monday - Friday from 9am-12pm daily. Students will receive tours of our exhibitions and create art inspired by their tours. Lessons will be led by one art teacher and one assistant teacher. Projects are all age appropriate and at least one teacher will be CPR certified. Snacks will be provided daily.
Cost is $350 per child per session. Cost includes art supplies and daily snack.
(FIU staff, faculty, students & alumni receive 10% discount; Frost members receive 15% discount.)
2-week sessions:
1) June 15 - June 26
2) June 29 - July 10
3) July 13 - July 24
daily schedule:
9:00am - 9:10am arrival of students
9:10am - 9:40am students receive a 30-minute guided tour & discussion of a museum exhibition at the Frost & FIU
9:45am - 10:30am students create art inspired by the tour & discussion
10:30am - 10:45am snack time & break
10:45am - 11:00am group discussion/feedback about our projects (give each ideas & help to complete & improve)
11:00am - 11:15am students continue working on their art activity
11:15am - 11:45am students display & share their art
11:45am - 12:00am cleanup time and dismissal
Guided Tours will include:
technology & art in our new Family Discovery Gallery, Frost Art Museum building designed by architect Yann Weymouth, sculpture park tour at FIU, permanent collection Figures: Past & Present, contemporary art exhibition called Because I Say So, art & science exhibition Genetic Portraits, Nancy Friedemann exhibition What Comes After, Cintas exhibition featuring Cuban descent arts, art in public buildings including tapestry by Xavier Cortada, student art shows in the GC Gallery, art inspired by nature & plants on FIU campus (pond, trees), etc.)
Projects will change each session, so students can register for more than one session.
