Steven & Dorothea Green Critics’ Lecture Series

October 7, 2017
Frost Art Museum FIU

Summary of Event

Dr. Johnnetta Betsch Cole has trailblazed paths in the worlds of art and higher education. As director of the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art, Dr. Cole oversaw groundbreaking exhibitions, expanded the education programs, and served as the first Chief Diversity Officer at the Smithsonian. She was the first African-American woman to serve as President of Spelman College, and is an accomplished anthropologist, educator, and author. Dr. Cole has received numerous awards, including the BET Honors Education Award.

Since 1981, the Steven & Dorothea Green Critics’ Lecture Series has brought over 130 renowned artists, critics, curators and other art world luminaries to our South Florida community.  These speakers have shaped art history through their scholarly, creative, and leadership contributions.  They have inspired us to think critically, investigate further, and consider the discourses and practices that shape the world of art.
